The Faculty of Agriculture at Tottori University was founded in 1949 as a faculty of Tottori University with a farm and a forest used for research. The faculty covered the four areas of the science of agriculture: agricultural chemistry, agricultural science, forestry studies, and veterinary medicine. The Faculty of Agriculture had its origin in the Tottori Agricultural College (subsequently renamed the Tottori Higher School of Agriculture and Forestry and the Tottori Vocational Training School of Agriculture and Forestry), which was the third such school in Japan at its founding in 1920. Since its establishment, the Faculty of Agriculture has seen expansions and reductions in its facilities for science. In 1999, for handling the rapid recent advances in science and technology and for meeting the new social demands for science, it was reorganized into the School of Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Sciences, with a 4-year program, and the Department of Veterinary Medicine, with a 6-year program. In 2013, Tottori established a Joint Department of Veterinary Medicine with Gifu University, and in 2017, it was reorganized from the School of Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Sciences to the Department of Life and Environmental Agricultural Sciences. The university’s graduate school includes a master's course at the Graduate School of Sustainability Science (combining the Department of Agricultural Science and the Department of Dryland Science) and doctoral courses hosted at the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences (main school: Tottori University) and the United Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine (main school: Yamaguchi University). The Field Science Center, the Fungus/Mushroom Resource and Research Center, the Animal Medical Treatment Center, the Center for the Development and Promotion of Joint Veterinary Education, and the Avian Zoonosis Research Center are the educational and research institutions that are affiliated with the institution, and the faculty cooperates with these centers and the Tottori University Arid Land Research Center, a jointly used base for research activities, on education　and　research.
