　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　“Background and Purpose of the Program”

　This group training program is one of the technical training program which JICA(Japan International Cooperation Agency) administrate. Tottori University has been at the forefront of the research and its result about development / utilization of water resources in arid regions.
Based on this achievement, in 1997, JICA consigned the training program ; "Water Resources Development and Its Use in Arid Regions", which forms the basis of the present program.
After completing over 10 rounds of the program, the contents in its program had been reviewed to incorporate an innovative viewpoint to give careful consideration to environmental issues. These reconsiderations had materialized a fresh start of the second program from 2004 to 2008 and third program from 2009 to 2011. In 2011, we reviewed again and the present training program; "Appropriate Management of Land and Water Resources for Sustainable Agriculture in Arid and Semi-arid Regions (A)" started from 20012.
About 10 people from 10 countries participate in the program every year. During the program, participants take lectures at Tottori University and Arid Land Research Center. In addition, they observe many relevant facilities in Japan.
During the training program, they are due to make the reports periodically, and exchange ideas among participants, foreign students and lecturers, audience at the presentation.
After completing this training program, each participants will share their experiences with their colleagues and become a diffuser of these knowledge and techniques they acquired in Japan.
